I don't just make decisions about Utah schools. My family lives those decisions every day.
Meet Erin
Who Is Erin Longacre?
Erin is married to her husband, Chris, and together they are raising their three children. Erin lives education every day since her children span all levels. She has one who attends elementary school, another in middle school, and her oldest in high school. She spends most of her time in schools, whether substituting, being a homeroom mom, volunteering for the PTA, organizing teacher appreciation events, or being on call when help is needed in the classroom. Erin sees the successes happening in education and recognizes the areas for improvement, which fuels her passion to serve on the Utah State Board of Education.
Erin, a native of Delaware, pursued her athletic scholarship at Villanova University, where she played Division 1 volleyball. She has a degree in Communications, with a minor in Sociology. In 2004, she relocated to Utah, where she fell in love with the state and her husband.
Erin understands that many people want a seat at the table when it comes to education. While she may serve on the Board, she acknowledges that the seat truly belongs to those who live and work in District 7. These individuals include parents, teachers, and other educators who want to be heard. They have valid concerns, questions, and even solutions that could improve academics statewide. Erin believes that the children of Utah deserve the classic education that older generations were so fortunate to receive. She understands that many educators who make important decisions affecting the classroom often have a distant, bird’s-eye view of matters than those that mean the most. It is crucial to be in the trenches, and that is where you will find her.
District 7
Listening. Learning. Representing You.
District 7 isn’t just the district I represent, it is my community and my home. I am raising my family here, my children attend our public schools, and I spend time in our schools as a substitute teacher and volunteer. The decisions made at the State Board aren’t abstract to me, they affect the students, families, and educators I see every day.
I believe good representation starts with showing up and listening. Over the past year, I have sought input from parents, teachers, school leaders, students, and community members throughout District 7. I don’t expect everyone to agree, but I believe every perspective deserves to be heard and thoughtfully considered.
My first year on the Board has reinforced that representing District 7 means bringing your voices to the table and working with others to turn those perspectives into solutions. I listen to the people I represent, ask questions, study the issues, and work with Board members and education leaders who may bring different perspectives. My goal is to find common ground where possible while making decisions that keep students and the needs of our communities at the center.
Experience on the Board has also shown me where there is more work to do. We need to continue strengthening literacy and mathematics, supporting great teachers, protecting instructional time, using education dollars responsibly, and making thoughtful decisions about technology and the policies that affect our classrooms.
My work for District 7 is not finished. I want to continue building on the relationships, knowledge, and experience I have gained during my first year of service. I remain committed to showing up, listening, doing the work, and bringing the voices of District 7 with me every time I sit at the State Board table.
